The City of Columbia awarded the contract for construction for its Water and Wastewater Division’s new administrative offices, fleet management building and storage facility to Contract Construction, Inc. The project site, which is considered a brownfield due to the presence of a variety of hazardous subterranean materials, was formerly Newsome Chevrolet car dealership and is located on West Beltline in Columbia, SC.
The project will entail the demolition of a building, the renovation of two buildings and the construction of a new building. The project includes the following components:
Administrative Buildings: a new 15,000 square foot facility, replacing the car showroom, with offices, a large conference room and break room.
Warehouse: renovation of an existing pre-engineered structure providing vehicle storage, additional offices, locker rooms and unconditioned equipment offices, locker rooms and unconditioned equipment storage, 36,000 square foot.
Conditioned Storage: renovation of an 11,000 square foot existing pre-engineered structure providing conditioned storage for sensitive vehicles and additional offices.
Guardhouse: a small fully conditioned structure at the site entry.
Site Amenities: covered fleet storage, material and equipment storage, outdoor service bay and bulk material storage bins.
The architect, Watson Tate Savory (WTS), has designed the project toward LEED Silver Certification and included six rain gardens and a green roof. WTS received the 2015 “Honor Award for Unbuilt Work” by AIA SC for their design of the site and facilities. To learn more about the AIASC award, click here.
